Charleston drivers could face flooded streets this morning as high tide combines with rising water levels along coastal roads. The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Charleston and Colleton counties until 11 a.m. today, warning that some streets may become impassable. Commuters should avoid U.S. Highway 17 and low-lying routes near the harbor.

According to the National Weather Service Charleston office, up to half a foot of saltwater inundation is expected along tidal waterways, with high tide reaching 9.3 feet at Charleston Harbor. Flood-prone properties could see standing water one to two hours around peak tide. Motorists are urged not to drive through barricades or standing water.

Beyond Sunday’s flooding concerns, the start of the workweek will bring drier weather. Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 87 degrees, though an isolated thunderstorm is possible in the afternoon. Winds will stay light, keeping humidity levels elevated. By Tuesday, conditions improve further with clear skies and highs again in the upper 80s.

The midweek forecast holds more sun, with only a 20 percent chance of afternoon storms Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will hover between the low 70s at night and low to mid-80s during the day.

Residents should prepare for localized flooding this morning, then enjoy a stretch of calmer conditions through midweek. Another round of scattered storms is possible by late Friday.
