Charleston, South Carolina – Dangerous heat and humidity are gripping the Lowcountry and Southeast Georgia again today, with the National Weather Service warning that heat indices will soar to 105-108° from parts of the Charleston Tri-County down to Hilton Head until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Charleston, the highest risk period lasts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible this afternoon offering some brief relief. The most intense heat will impact Charleston, Summerville, Moncks Corner, Beaufort, and Savannah, while inland areas like Walterboro and Sylvania will also see indices topping 100°.

High temperatures in the 90s combined with oppressive humidity levels are increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to drink water frequently, stay indoors in air conditioning when possible, and wear light, loose clothing. Those with outdoor plans should take frequent breaks and know the signs of heat exhaustion, as power outages or emergencies could increase risk.

This marks one of the hottest days of July so far, with a 30% chance of heat indices exceeding 108° in the Charleston metro area—a level that can be dangerous even for healthy adults. More advisories could follow if storms miss the region or heat persists into Wednesday.
