South Carolina – Sunlight is already beating down on pavement across Columbia this afternoon, and the air feels more like early summer than spring. Heat is building fast, and temperatures will surge into the 90s within days.

According to the National Weather Service, highs reach 88°F today before climbing to 86°F Monday, then jumping to 90°F Tuesday and 92°F Wednesday. The heat continues intensifying with a high near 94°F by Thursday under mostly sunny skies.

Roadways across I-26, I-20, and Highway 378 remain dry, but heat shimmer and glare could impact visibility during peak afternoon travel. Keep sunglasses handy and stay alert during long drives.

By Tuesday afternoon, the region shifts firmly into summer-like conditions. Pavement and buildings heat quickly, and shade becomes limited during peak sun hours. Plan outdoor work early and take frequent breaks.

Wednesday and Thursday bring the most intense stretch. Highs in the low to mid-90s will push heat stress concerns higher, especially for those without access to cooling. Hydration becomes critical, and checking on vulnerable neighbors is strongly encouraged.

Evenings offer little relief, with lows hovering near 60°F to mid-60s. That lingering warmth can make homes feel stuffy without proper ventilation or cooling.

This warming trend reflects a broader pattern expanding across the Southeast, with above-normal temperatures expected to continue into late week and beyond.

Five Day Outlook for Columbia, South Carolina:
Today: Sunny, high 88°F
Monday: Partly sunny, high 86°F
Tuesday: Sunny, high 90°F
Wednesday: Sunny, high 92°F
Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 94°F
