Charleston, South Carolina – A chilly start with potential frost is settling in tonight, but a rapid warm-up will push temperatures toward summerlike levels by the weekend across coastal South Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, overnight lows will fall into the mid-30s inland and near 40°F along the beaches, creating favorable conditions for widespread frost into early Wednesday morning. Sensitive plants and early spring vegetation could be damaged during the pre-dawn hours.

Daytime conditions remain cool Tuesday, with highs only reaching the mid-50s under mostly clear skies. Areas including Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville will stay below normal, with dry air and light winds allowing temperatures to drop quickly again overnight.

The pattern shifts by Thursday and Friday as high pressure builds, bringing a steady warming trend. Highs climb into the upper 60s and mid-70s by Friday afternoon, signaling a return to more typical spring conditions.

By Saturday and Sunday, temperatures surge into the low 80s across much of the region, including inland Berkeley and Dorchester counties, while coastal areas remain slightly cooler.

Residents should protect sensitive plants tonight, then prepare for much warmer afternoons heading into the weekend. Additional updates may follow if frost advisories are expanded early Wednesday.
