Charleston, S.C. – Roads, neighborhoods, and businesses across coastal South Carolina face a heightened risk of flash flooding as rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms continue through Tuesday morning. Areas from Charleston to Hinesville and Savannah could see 2 to 3 inches of rainfall, with locally higher totals where storms linger.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a stalled cold front will drive repeated downpours through early next week, making low-lying roads especially vulnerable. Emergency managers warn drivers to avoid water-covered streets and keep alternate routes in mind as ponding and fast-rising creeks are possible, especially in flood-prone zones from Beaufort to Darien. The risk remains most pronounced through Tuesday, with the Weather Service noting a Flood Watch may be issued as rain continues to accumulate.
Residents should charge mobile devices, check local alerts, and be ready to move to higher ground if needed. Stay off the roads during periods of heavy rainfall and never attempt to drive through flooded areas. Isolated power outages and transit delays are possible where storms are most intense.
This prolonged rain event will gradually taper by Tuesday night, but additional advisories and warnings could follow if rainfall exceeds forecast amounts.
