Greenville, SC – Deputies in Greenville County discovered approximately $1.6 million in counterfeit designer merchandise during a traffic stop along Interstate 85, authorities said Monday.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit (GCMDEU) pulled over a vehicle traveling southbound earlier in the day. Inside, investigators found boxes of fake branded items labeled as Hugo Boss, Lilly Pulitzer, and Burberry.
The shipment, which was reportedly traveling from New Jersey to Atlanta, is now part of a joint investigation involving Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
“No charges have been filed at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, adding that the investigation remains ongoing with federal assistance.
Officials also thanked Palmetto State Transportation for their cooperation during the discovery.
Authorities did not disclose the driver’s identity or whether any arrests are expected as the probe continues. Counterfeit goods can carry severe federal penalties for trafficking, particularly when crossing state lines.
This seizure marks one of the largest counterfeit merchandise interceptions on the I-85 corridor in recent months, according to local law enforcement.
