South Carolina Severe Weather Alert: Beaufort and Colleton Counties Face 60 MPH Wind Threat Tonight

Beaufort, SC – A strong line of thunderstorms is threatening southeastern South Carolina this evening, as the National Weather Service in Charleston issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Beaufort and Colleton counties until 9:15 p.m. Monday. Residents are urged to take shelter and prepare for damaging winds.

According to the National Weather Service, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm was located five miles northeast of Ladys Island at 8:18 p.m., moving southeast at 5 mph. Meteorologists warn that the primary hazard from this storm is wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph, with potential damage to roofs, siding and trees in the storm’s path.

Communities expected to be impacted include Beaufort, Ladys Island, Coosaw Island, Sams Point, Daniels, Chisolm Point, Dataw Island, Eddings Point, Ashdale, and Walling Grove. Officials recommend that area residents seek shelter inside well-built structures and remain away from windows until the warning expires.

No large hail has been detected with this storm, but the risk of strong winds remains high. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and report any storm damage directly to the Charleston National Weather Service at 888-383-2024 once it is safe to do so.
