Greenville, South Carolina – Strong to severe thunderstorms could impact parts of South Carolina, western North Carolina, and northeast Georgia Tuesday evening into Tuesday night, with damaging winds and large hail posing the greatest risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, the severe weather threat begins late Tuesday across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia. Areas like Toccoa, Asheville, and Greenville are under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) or Level 3 (Enhanced Risk) for severe storms. Gusts up to 70 mph and quarter-sized hail are possible. Confidence in the storm strength drops east of the North Carolina mountains.

Cities including Spartanburg, Rock Hill, Greenwood, and Hickory may experience localized wind damage or brief power outages. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and stay off the roads during storm activity. The risk of tornadoes remains low but cannot be entirely ruled out, especially in higher-risk zones.

The storm threat will linger through late Tuesday night. More advisories may be issued as conditions evolve. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov/gsp.
