South Carolina – A Winter Storm Watch will take effect Tuesday afternoon, bringing snow, sleet, and dangerously cold wind chills to much of the state. Overnight temperatures are forecast to plunge as low as 15 degrees with wind chills dropping further, making outdoor conditions hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service, up to two inches of snow may accumulate in cities like Charleston, North Charleston, and Summerville. Road conditions could become treacherous late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, especially along Interstate 26 and bridges. Drivers are urged to slow down and prepare for icy patches and reduced visibility.

The Cold Weather Advisory, which remains in effect through noon Wednesday, warns of wind chills as low as 10 degrees in southeast South Carolina and parts of Georgia. Officials advise wearing layers, using extreme caution when outdoors, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

Tuesday begins with increasing clouds and highs near 39°F, followed by a 90% chance of snow and sleet late into the evening. Wednesday will be partly sunny with lingering snow showers in the morning and highs of 37°F. The cold pattern continues through Thursday, with another chance of freezing rain overnight.

Residents should monitor weather updates and ensure they have emergency supplies ready.
