Charleston, SC – A warm and wetter-than-normal pattern is setting up across South Carolina from Nov. 29th through Dec. 5th, bringing multiple rounds of rainfall across the state as early December begins.

According to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, temperatures are expected to run above normal statewide, including the Lowcountry, Midlands, Pee Dee, and Upstate regions. With warm air firmly in place, all precipitation will fall as rain, eliminating any chance of early-season snow.

NOAA also shows a strong signal for above-normal precipitation, indicating several storm systems may move across the Southeast during this period. Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and North Charleston may see multiple rainy commutes, with periods of heavier downpours possible.

The Midlands — including Columbia, Lexington, and Sumter — will experience frequent rain events, potentially leading to ponding on roadways during peak travel windows. The Upstate, including Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson, is also likely to see a steady stretch of rainfall as moisture lifts northward.

Farther east, the Grand Strand — including Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Surfside Beach — may see some of the highest rainfall totals, depending on how coastal moisture interacts with passing disturbances.

Forecasters emphasize that this is not one major storm but a multi-system wet pattern, producing reduced visibility, slippery roads, and localized minor flooding, particularly in low-lying or tidal areas.

As December begins, South Carolina residents should prepare for a mild but very rainy week.
