South Carolina – A humid spring morning settles over Spartanburg as thin fog clings to quiet neighborhoods and rural roads. The air already feels warm and heavy, hinting at a more active afternoon ahead.
Clouds will thicken across the Upstate as the day unfolds. By early afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms may begin forming across Spartanburg County and nearby foothill communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected from late afternoon through the evening hours. Some storms could briefly strengthen, producing frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and gusty winds.
Meteorologists say a few storms could even produce hail approaching quarter size, though the overall severe risk remains limited.
Drivers should stay alert along Interstate 85, Interstate 26, and U.S. Highway 29, where sudden downpours could reduce visibility. Wet pavement may also slow traffic during evening travel.
Temperatures will still climb into the upper 70s across Spartanburg, creating the warmest conditions of the week so far. The warmth and humidity help fuel the developing storms.
Showers may continue into the evening before gradually weakening later tonight. A few leftover showers remain possible early Sunday as the system moves east.
The bigger weather story arrives early next week.
Sunshine returns Monday with temperatures pushing near 80 degrees across the Upstate, followed by low-80s warmth Tuesday and Wednesday. This early-March warm spell is running well above seasonal averages.
Residents should also remember the Daylight Saving Time change early Sunday morning, when clocks move ahead one hour at 2 a.m. The shift brings longer daylight evenings as spring approaches.
Meteorologists say a generally warmer pattern may hold through much of the coming week across the Southeast.
