South Carolina – Low gray clouds hang over the Upstate this morning, and damp pavement glistens under muted daylight. The calm start hides a quick-moving weather shift that will bring rain and possible thunderstorms before a sharp cooldown for St. Patrick’s Day.

Temperatures sit near 52°F early this morning in Spartanburg, with light winds and thick overcast skies across the I-85 corridor. The air feels mild but unsettled.

Clouds hold through the day while temperatures rise toward 70°F, delivering brief early spring warmth across the Upstate.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, scattered showers develop later today, becoming more widespread tonight as moisture deepens across western South Carolina.

Rain becomes steady before sunrise Monday. Showers and possible thunderstorms will spread across Spartanburg County during the morning hours.

By Monday afternoon, the storm system strengthens slightly. Thunderstorms are possible before 5 p.m., with periods of moderate rainfall.

Drivers along Interstate 85, Interstate 26, and U.S. Highway 29 should expect wet pavement and occasional reduced visibility during heavier showers.

Rain totals will generally stay light, but pockets of heavier rainfall could briefly slow traffic across the Upstate.

Behind the cold front, temperatures drop sharply Monday night. Skies begin clearing while colder northwest air moves into the region.

By Tuesday — St. Patrick’s Day — sunshine returns, but the air feels noticeably cooler. Afternoon highs reach only around 49°F, nearly 20 degrees colder than earlier in the week.

Clear skies Tuesday night could allow temperatures to fall into the mid-20s, raising the risk of patchy frost across parts of the Upstate.

Sunshine continues midweek while temperatures gradually rebound toward the mid-60s by Thursday, signaling a steadier return to spring.
