According to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 11 p.m. Monday to Hidden Creek Drive in the Hartsville area after reports of an injured person. Emergency medical crews also responded and contacted the Darlington County Coroner’s Office upon arrival.
Deputies said they were able to identify and locate a suspect at the back of a nearby residence, where he was taken into custody. Authorities confirmed that Rex Griffiths Jr. was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain crimes.
Griffiths is being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center as he awaits a bond hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
