Charleston, S.C. – Street flooding, swollen creeks, and dangerous driving conditions are possible across the South Carolina Lowcountry and coastal Georgia today as a Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight. Heavy rain bands could dump 1 to 3 inches of rain, with some spots exceeding 5 inches before sunrise Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, saturated ground from recent rains will increase the likelihood of flash flooding in both urban and rural areas. Poor drainage spots in cities such as Charleston, Beaufort, Savannah, and Hilton Head could see rapid water accumulation, making travel hazardous.

Roadways in low-lying coastal communities, including U.S. 17, S.C. 170, and I-526 interchanges, may experience ponding water during heavier downpours. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and never attempt to cross water-covered bridges or intersections.

Localized flooding could also impact creeks and rivers in Hampton, Dorchester, Effingham, and Liberty counties. Emergency officials advise residents to keep phones charged, secure outdoor belongings, and be prepared to move to higher ground if warnings are issued.

The Flood Watch covers southeast Georgia and much of the South Carolina Lowcountry until early Monday morning, with additional alerts possible if storms persist.
