Charleston, S.C. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to drench the South Carolina Lowcountry and southeast Georgia through Saturday night, raising the risk of flash flooding in already saturated areas. Some communities could see more than 6 inches of rain, with the most intense downpours arriving Friday night into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue as a cold front stalls across the region. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are likely for much of the Lowcountry, but locally higher amounts are expected where storms repeatedly track over the same areas. The greatest concern is scattered flash flooding in urban and low-lying locations.

Cities including Charleston, Beaufort, Walterboro, and Savannah should expect periods of torrential rain that could overwhelm storm drains and make roads impassable. Rivers and creeks may rise quickly, especially in flood-prone areas. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads and be prepared to reroute travel if flash flooding develops.

The Weather Service advises residents to keep devices charged and to be ready to move to higher ground if floodwaters approach. Watches remain in effect through Saturday night, and additional advisories may be issued as storms persist.
