Charleston, S.C. – Boaters on Lake Moultrie could face hazardous conditions this afternoon as strong winds whip across the water, creating choppy waves and increased risk for small vessels.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday for southeast South Carolina and parts of southeast Georgia. Sustained westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected, especially near Lake Moultrie.

Mariners should anticipate 1- to 2-foot waves and reduced control of small boats. The advisory affects recreational areas around Moncks Corner, Summerville, and Reevesville, as well as inland communities in Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

Officials urge lake visitors to avoid unnecessary boating during the advisory, secure gear, and monitor changing conditions. These wind patterns could also temporarily disrupt activities at local marinas or create hazards near docks.

This is a short-duration advisory, but more wind alerts may follow if gusty conditions persist into Friday.
