Columbia, South Carolina – High temperatures are expected to climb into the low to mid-90s across central South Carolina through early next week as summer heat builds behind today’s round of thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, a shortwave system will bring showers and storms today before upper-level ridging pushes in. That shift will allow temperatures to steadily rise beginning Thursday, with most locations reaching the 90s by the weekend and peaking between 92°F and 94°F Monday and Tuesday.

Cities including Columbia, Lexington, Aiken, and Orangeburg are forecast to see some of the highest readings, with Columbia projected to reach 93°F by Tuesday. The heat will be accompanied by daily chances for isolated afternoon storms, consistent with a typical summer pattern.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals. The pattern may also lead to minor disruptions in outdoor events and increase cooling demand for homes and businesses.

While no formal heat advisories have been issued yet, officials say temperatures will remain elevated through midweek, with updated alerts possible as conditions evolve.
