Greenville, South Carolina – South Carolina residents will feel the heat today as temperatures surge back into the 90s, kicking off a multi-day heat wave expected to worsen by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, highs across the Upstate and surrounding regions will climb into the low- to mid-90s Thursday, with heat indices approaching triple digits in some areas. The most intense heat is forecast to hit counties including Anderson, Greenwood, and Laurens, where air temps may top out near 94°F by late afternoon.

In Greenville, Spartanburg, and Rock Hill, residents can expect highs around 92°F with sticky humidity making it feel even hotter. Officials are urging people to limit outdoor activity between noon and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors or those without air conditioning. Schools and local summer programs may alter outdoor schedules as conditions become unsafe.

This marks the beginning of a prolonged heat event for the Southeast, with rising overnight lows and dangerous heat index values forecast through at least Sunday. Emergency officials warn that this weekend could bring the hottest conditions of the summer so far.
