Columbia, SC — A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Midlands of South Carolina and parts of east-central Georgia, including the Columbia metro area, as critical fire conditions are expected Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, the warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT. The affected region includes Richland, Lexington, Aiken, and Sumter counties in South Carolina, as well as Columbia and Richmond counties in Georgia.

Forecasters warn that west winds between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, will combine with relative humidity as low as 20 percent and temperatures in the mid-70s to create a dangerous fire environment.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during the warning period, as fires may ignite easily and spread quickly. Dry fuels, dormant vegetation, and gusty winds increase the risk of wildfires throughout the day.

This Red Flag Warning highlights a seasonal hazard for the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), where springtime fire weather episodes are common. Local fire crews are on heightened alert, and residents are urged to follow all burn restrictions and monitor emergency updates.
