Greenville, South Carolina – Residents across the Upstate are bracing for a sharp overnight chill as a Freeze Warning takes effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday. Temperatures are expected to plummet to near 30 degrees, posing a risk to sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, the warning includes Greenville, Oconee, and Pickens Mountains in South Carolina, along with neighboring mountain counties in North Carolina and northeast Georgia. Sub-freezing conditions could damage unprotected crops and garden plants, especially in low-lying and rural areas.

Homeowners are urged to cover plants, drain sprinkler systems, and protect outdoor pipes before nightfall. Even brief exposure to these cold temperatures could cause frost damage to tender vegetation, with agricultural losses possible in some higher elevations.

Drivers in rural and mountain routes may also encounter frost on windshields early Saturday morning. The freeze warning is expected to expire by mid-morning as temperatures slowly rebound under clear skies.

Warnings remain in effect through 9 a.m. Saturday, and additional cold advisories may follow if conditions persist.
