Columbia, SC – The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for parts of central South Carolina and east-central Georgia from 2 p.m. Sunday through 8 a.m. Monday, citing gusty winds that could make lake conditions dangerous for small boats.
According to the NWS, west winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected across the region, including the Columbia, Aiken, and Sumter areas in South Carolina and Augusta, Thomson, and Waynesboro in Georgia.
The advisory covers a broad area stretching from Chesterfield County, SC, south through Orangeburg, Bamberg, and Aiken Counties, and west into Richmond and Columbia Counties, GA.
Forecasters warn that strong winds and rough waves may cause hazardous conditions on area lakes, potentially overturning small craft. Boaters are urged to use extra caution or avoid heading out during the advisory period.
Wind speeds are expected to remain elevated overnight before tapering off early Monday morning.
