Western Carolinas and Northeast Georgia – Heavy rainfall is expected to affect parts of the Western Carolinas and Northeast Georgia starting late Monday night, bringing with it a significant risk of flooding in some areas. Forecasters are predicting up to 5 inches of rain by Tuesday morning, particularly in the higher elevations and urban areas of North and South Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service, the most substantial rainfall will occur from Monday night into Tuesday morning, with excessive rain most likely across the central and western regions of the Carolinas and parts of northeast Georgia. Affected areas include Asheville, Spartanburg, Greenville, and parts of northeast Georgia, where rainfall could reach 2-5 inches.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, as the heavy rain could lead to rapid rises in water levels on local roads, especially in low-lying areas and near rivers. Officials warn that driving conditions could become hazardous late Monday night, particularly for those traveling along major highways such as I-85 and I-40. Residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to take precautionary measures now, including securing loose outdoor items and checking sump pumps.

The risk of flooding will continue into Tuesday, and additional warnings may be issued as the system progresses. Stay updated with the latest advisories from local authorities as conditions evolve.
