South Carolina – Headlights cut through thick gray mist across Spartanburg and Greenville this morning as dense fog settles over the Upstate. With temperatures sitting in the upper 30s, the air feels damp and heavy, coating windshields and signs in dew as drivers creep through low visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, patchy fog is expected to linger through midmorning Sunday, with some areas seeing visibility drop to under a quarter-mile. Motorists along I-85 and I-26 should reduce speed and use low-beam headlights. Conditions should slowly improve by midday as skies clear and temperatures rise near 50°F.

Sunday night stays calm with a low around 36°F, but by Monday morning, clouds build again ahead of a 30–50% rain chance. Light showers are possible through early afternoon before drier air moves back in Monday night.

The rest of the week trends milder—mid-50s Tuesday and Wednesday—with mostly sunny skies and light winds. However, the transition from fog to rain to clearer skies could still make for slick roads early Monday. Drivers are urged to stay alert for wet pavement and limited visibility, especially near rivers, fields, and shaded valleys.

Meteorologists note that as the region enters December, early-morning fog and temperature swings will remain common through next week. Colder air is expected to push southward later in the month as winter weather continues to expand across the nation.
