The advisory is in effect from noon to 7 PM today, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 105°F in some areas. The advisory covers most of northeast Georgia and Upstate South Carolina, including parts of the Charlotte metro area.
According to the US National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, scattered thunderstorms are expected throughout the day, with some potentially becoming severe. These storms could bring damaging winds, particularly in areas already experiencing high temperatures. The heat index, which measures how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature, could exceed 111°F in some parts of South Carolina.
Residents are urged to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, including staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seeking air-conditioned environments when possible. The forecast for Spartanburg shows temperatures reaching 93°F today with a 55% chance of rain. The heat will continue into the weekend, with Friday expected to hit 95°F and a slight cooldown by Sunday, with highs around 92°F.
