Charleston, SC – A sharp blast of Arctic air is set to bring dangerously cold wind chills across South Carolina late Sunday night into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, an Arctic cold front will usher in the coldest temperatures of the winter season so far, combined with gusty winds that will drive wind chill values below 20 degrees statewide. Some inland and rural areas could experience single-digit wind chills.

The coldest conditions are expected overnight Sunday into early Monday, affecting areas including Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Myrtle Beach, and surrounding counties. Confidence is high that much of the region will experience wind chills in the teens, with lower confidence—but still possible—single-digit values in interior locations.

Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and ensure pets and vulnerable populations are protected from the cold. Exposed pipes may also be at risk in colder inland communities.

While no winter precipitation is expected, the bitter cold could impact early morning commuters and outdoor workers.
