Charleston, SC – A powerful cold front is sweeping through South Carolina, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures by the weekend. Residents should prepare for lows dipping into the 30s and highs barely breaking 50 degrees, a significant departure from recent mild weather.

According to the National Weather Service, areas of dense fog this morning are expected to clear by 10 a.m., leaving mostly cloudy skies and a high near 65 degrees today. By Friday, a cooling trend will intensify, with temperatures dropping to a low of 37 degrees overnight. Sunshine will return Saturday, but highs will struggle to reach 51 degrees, and overnight lows will plummet to a brisk 32 degrees.

Sunday promises sunny but chilly conditions, with highs near 48 degrees and overnight temperatures bottoming out at 31 degrees. Monday will offer similar conditions, with highs reaching 50 degrees and lows around 39.

Travelers on I-26 and other Charleston-area roadways should exercise caution due to morning fog today, which could limit visibility. Wind chills this weekend will make outdoor activities feel even colder, so layering up is recommended. Those planning holiday travel or outdoor events should monitor the forecast and dress appropriately.

As Christmas approaches, the long-term outlook suggests a slight chance of showers beginning Tuesday night, with a 30% chance of precipitation by Christmas Day. Temperatures are expected to remain cool, with a high near 46 degrees on the holiday.

Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and prepare for the upcoming freeze by securing outdoor pipes and checking on vulnerable neighbors or pets.
