Charleston, SC – A sharp cooldown is on the way for South Carolina early next week, bringing some of the coldest air of the season so far.
According to the US National Weather Service Charleston, above-average temperatures will hold for a few more days before a strong cold front moves through Sunday night. By Monday, highs are expected to fall from the upper 70s and low 80s into the low 50s, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s across much of the region.
While the coast — including Charleston, Beaufort, and Tybee Island — is expected to remain just above freezing, inland communities such as Allendale, Millen, and Moncks Corner could see a few hours at or below 32°F early Tuesday morning. The temperature plunge marks a swing of more than 25 degrees from current conditions.
The weather service advises residents to prepare for the colder air by protecting plants, pets, and pipes, especially in areas more prone to frost or brief freezes. Temperatures are forecast to slowly rebound by late next week, with highs climbing back into the 60s by Thursday.
Motorists and early-morning commuters should also be cautious of frosty windshields and slick spots in rural areas.
