Charleston, SC – Major coastal flooding is expected late this morning into early afternoon along the South Carolina coast, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston. The agency issued alerts for Charleston and Colleton counties, with water levels expected to reach major flood thresholds at Charleston Harbor between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.
According to NWS forecasters, Charleston Harbor could experience water levels near 8 feet, reaching the major flood stage around midday. Meanwhile, Fort Pulaski, near Savannah, is forecast to see minor coastal flooding, with tide levels peaking between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Officials caution that some low-lying coastal roads may flood and become impassable by late morning. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded streets and use alternate routes where possible. Impacts are expected across Charleston, Colleton, Beaufort, McIntosh, and Tidal Berkeley counties.
Residents are advised to monitor updates from local emergency management offices and the National Weather Service throughout the day, as conditions could worsen during high tide.
