Charleston, S.C. – Coastal residents are waking up to a mix of muggy air and marine hazards this Sunday as rip currents and minor coastal flooding continue to affect beaches from Folly to Isle of Palms. The National Weather Service has extended a Coastal Flood Advisory through 10 a.m. Monday and a Rip Current Statement through 8 p.m. Sunday, urging swimmers to avoid entering the water and motorists to watch for saltwater on low-lying roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, isolated thunderstorms remain possible overnight before drier air returns Monday. Winds out of the northeast near 10 mph will continue to push water inland during high tide cycles, increasing the potential for nuisance flooding along the Battery and surrounding marshlands.
Daytime highs will rise into the low 80s early in the week with mostly sunny skies by Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers may return late Wednesday night into Thursday as another weak front drifts toward the coast.
Beachgoers should heed local flag warnings and avoid swimming near jetties or piers. Coastal flooding could briefly affect morning commutes along Lockwood Drive and Ashley Avenue during high tide.
Conditions are expected to stabilize by midweek, though another round of rain is possible by Thursday night.
