Camden, SC – Two Florida residents were arrested Friday afternoon after an alleged armed burglary attempt led to a high-speed chase and crash in Kershaw County, authorities said.

According to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 1:40 p.m. on October 3 when a homeowner on Wateree Boulevard spotted a masked suspect with balloons and a handgun at her front door via a doorbell camera. The homeowner refused to open the door and called 911. Deputies said the suspect then tried to force his way into the home before fleeing in a white SUV with no tags.

Deputies quickly located the vehicle nearby and attempted a stop, but the suspects allegedly refused, initiating a pursuit that reached speeds near 100 mph. The chase ended when the SUV crashed on Broad Street (Hwy 521) toward I-20, overturning and striking several trees.

The driver, identified as Traineice Shantelle Vasquez, 37, was taken into custody and treated by EMS. Passenger James Allen III, 30, allegedly fled on foot but was apprehended moments later. Deputies say Allen broke his arm during the crash.

A K9 unit later recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the attempted burglary. Investigators believe the suspects knew the victim and said the act was not random.

Vasquez faces multiple charges including failure to stop for blue lights, accessory after the fact, and criminal conspiracy. Her bond is set at $65,000. Allen faces first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and conspiracy; his bond is currently denied.
