South Carolina residents can expect a breezy start to the first weekend of spring, with gusty winds arriving Friday and a warming trend into Saturday and Sunday. While sunshine dominates the forecast, strong winds and dry air could increase fire risks, especially on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a cold front will pass through Thursday night, bringing gusty conditions that will persist through Friday evening. Winds could reach speeds of up to 31 mph, making unsecured outdoor objects vulnerable to blowing away. Scattered power outages are also possible.

Friday will see highs near 66°F with mostly clear skies. Winds will shift northwest at 9 to 14 mph overnight, with lows dropping to 35°F. The first official weekend of spring will bring warmer temperatures, with highs climbing to 75°F on both Saturday and Sunday. However, the combination of low humidity, dry ground, and gusty winds could increase the risk of wildfires. A Red Flag Warning may be issued if conditions continue to deteriorate.

Sunday night brings a slight chance of showers, with rain chances increasing to 50% on Monday. Highs will remain near 71°F to start the week, with partly cloudy conditions expected.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, be cautious with open flames, and monitor fire safety alerts. Stay updated on weather conditions through the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies.
