Charleston, SC – Heat index values could soar as high as 110°F across parts of Georgia and the Carolinas today, prompting urgent advisories from the National Weather Service that stretch from Savannah to the Outer Banks.

According to NWS offices in Charleston and Morehead City, a heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. EDT Sunday for much of southeast Georgia, coastal South Carolina, and eastern North Carolina. The combination of high humidity and temperatures in the upper 90s will create dangerous conditions that increase the risk of heat-related illness.

In Savannah, Hilton Head, and Charleston, residents should avoid prolonged outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours. Inland communities like Rincon, Moncks Corner, and Walterboro will also face oppressive conditions. Meanwhile, areas across eastern North Carolina, including Greenville, Beaufort, and the Outer Banks, are under similar advisories.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, seek air conditioning, and avoid strenuous activity. OSHA recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or cool environments for those working outdoors. Know the signs of heat exhaustion, which include dizziness, nausea, and headache—and act quickly to prevent heat stroke.

Warnings remain in effect through Sunday evening, with more advisories possible if high temperatures persist into Monday.
