Myrtle Beach – An air quality alert is in effect for Horry County due to wildfire smoke impacting the Myrtle Beach area. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services issued the alert, warning that fine particulate concentrations may reach unhealthy levels until further notice.
According to SCDES, high pressure over the Southeast is limiting smoke dispersion, keeping haze and poor air quality in place through at least midweek. The situation is expected to improve when a frontal system brings rain showers to the area on Wednesday, helping with wildfire containment.
Residents, particularly those with respiratory issues, are advised to limit outdoor activity, keep windows and doors closed, and use air conditioning with clean filters. Areas closest to active wildfires will experience the heaviest smoke concentrations, especially overnight and in the early morning.
In North Carolina, air quality alerts are also in effect for Polk, Stanly, and Montgomery counties due to similar wildfire conditions. These alerts remain active until midnight Monday night.
