South Bend, Indiana – Lake-effect snow is winding down across northern Indiana this morning, allowing for improving conditions and mainly sunny skies today before another round of snow moves in late tonight and early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, lingering lake-effect snow showers will taper off by midday, with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper teens. Dry weather is expected for much of the day, providing a brief break for travel across the region.

Snow is expected to redevelop late tonight and continue into Wednesday morning as a weak system moves through. The highest snowfall totals are expected along and north of the Indiana Toll Road, where accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are possible. Areas farther south, including Rochester, Warsaw, Marion, and Fort Wayne, are likely to see lighter amounts, generally an inch or less. Roads could become slick overnight and during the Wednesday morning commute, especially on untreated surfaces.

Wednesday afternoon should turn quieter, but colder air continues to filter in. By Friday, another surge of Arctic air will push highs down near 10 degrees across northern Indiana, with morning wind chills dropping to around 10 below zero.

Drivers are urged to use caution during periods of snow late tonight and Wednesday morning, and residents should prepare now for increasing cold later this week. Additional advisories or lake-effect snow headlines may be issued as colder air arrives toward the end of the week.
