FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Northern Indiana is set for a quiet stretch through Saturday morning before a late-day chance of light rain or snow arrives Saturday into Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service’s Northern Indiana office.

In a Wednesday afternoon 3-day outlook posted by the agency, forecasters said conditions stay mostly calm after a cold Wednesday night, then turn markedly milder by Friday with highs pushing into the 50s and near 60 in parts of the region.

The outlook calls for partly cloudy skies Wednesday night with lows generally 15 to 25 degrees. Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny with highs 37 to 45. The warmup peaks Friday, described as breezy and mild, with highs 52 to 60.

On the weather service’s Friday temperature map, highs were shown in the mid-50s for much of northern Indiana, including about 55 in South Bend and 56 in Fort Wayne, with upper-50s to near 60 around Lafayette and Monticello. Nearby locations across the region were also depicted in the mid- to upper-50s, supporting the agency’s message that Friday will feel more like early spring than late February.

Temperatures drop back Saturday, with highs 36 to 48 and a chance for late-day light rain or snow, the weather service said. Forecasters added that chances for light rain and snow enter the forecast later Saturday into Saturday night.

For commuters and weekend travelers, the main takeaway is timing: roads should generally be fine through Saturday morning, but a light mix later Saturday could create brief slick spots, especially on bridges and untreated side streets if temperatures dip near freezing after sunset. Residents are urged to monitor local updates as the weekend system approaches.
