South Bend, IN – Northern Indiana will see a stretch of unsettled weather through midweek, featuring periods of light snow, freezing rain, and lake effect snow, according to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana.

Light snow this morning is expected mainly north of U.S. 30, with accumulations around half an inch or less. By tonight, a wintry mix of rain, sleet, or freezing rain could develop as temperatures climb above freezing. Roads may become slick before conditions improve overnight.

On Wednesday, a rain and snow mix in the morning will transition back to snow by afternoon as temperatures drop again. Lake effect snow showers are likely Wednesday evening, especially near Lake Michigan, where up to 1 inch of accumulation is possible.

High temperatures will reach the upper 30s to low 40s Wednesday before plunging into the teens and 20s by Wednesday night, potentially leading to refreezing on untreated surfaces.

Drivers should use caution, particularly during the evening commute and overnight hours when icy spots are most likely.
