South Bend, Ind. – Rain showers will return to northern Indiana Thursday morning, bringing slick roads and reduced visibility before tapering off by late afternoon. An isolated thunderstorm could also develop, creating brief downpours in localized areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, conditions will remain unsettled through Thursday with scattered afternoon showers possible. Temperatures will stay seasonable, ranging from the upper 60s to mid-70s. A High Swim Risk is in effect for southeast Lake Michigan beaches late Thursday through early Friday, with life-threatening waves and strong currents expected.
The high waves, paired with northwest winds gusting up to 25 mph, will create dangerous conditions near piers and breakwaters in areas such as Michigan City and Porter County beaches. Officials advise swimmers and boaters to stay out of the water until the warning is lifted.
Friday will bring partly cloudy skies and cooler highs in the lower 70s before sunshine takes over for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly sunny with temperatures climbing into the mid-70s, offering a safer window for outdoor plans.
Warnings remain in effect for Lake Michigan swimmers through early Friday morning.
