SOUTH BEND, Ind. – One last chilly night is on tap across northern Indiana as clear skies and calm winds send temperatures tumbling into the 30s overnight. Patchy frost is likely by daybreak Friday, especially in rural and low-lying areas, before a stretch of mild and dry fall weather returns through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, overnight lows will range from 34 to 39 degrees, with the coldest readings north of U.S. 30 and near the Michigan border. Frost advisories could be issued for areas from LaPorte to Angola if winds calm further overnight. Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and disconnect outdoor hoses.

Daytime warmth rebounds quickly Friday and Saturday, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s and partly cloudy skies. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, no weather-related travel issues are expected, though morning commuters could encounter patchy fog near open fields. The mild pattern is expected to hold through Sunday with light winds and dry air, ideal for outdoor events, harvest operations, and fall festivals across the region.

Cooler air may return early next week, but for now, the region enjoys one of the last mild weekends before the deeper chill of late fall arrives.
