Fort Wayne, Indiana – Today is Sunday, and light rain south of U.S. Route 24 is ending this morning as a stretch of unseasonably mild weather begins.

According to the US National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, lingering showers south of US-24 will taper off early Sunday. Otherwise, much of the region will trend milder through midweek, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal averages.

Highs Monday are forecast to reach 50 to 60 degrees, followed by continued mild conditions Tuesday. By Wednesday, temperatures may rise into the upper 60s, approaching record highs for the date in some locations, including communities along Interstate 69 and U.S. Highway 30.

Rain chances increase late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, with a 40% to 80% chance of showers across northern Indiana. Forecasters say a thunderstorm cannot be ruled out during this period, especially during the pre-dawn hours Wednesday.

Wednesday is expected to be windy and unseasonably warm ahead of the system. Additional scattered showers remain possible Thursday, with about a 30% chance during the afternoon.

Communities near Lake Michigan may see slightly cooler temperatures compared to inland areas.

Commuters along I-69, US-24 and US-31 should prepare for wet roads late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Students and midweek travelers may notice spring-like warmth before conditions shift midweek.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as timing of showers and any thunderstorm potential becomes clearer.
