South Bend, Indiana – Unseasonably mild temperatures nearing record highs are expected across northern Indiana through Thursday, with multiple rounds of rain and a few thunderstorms possible.

According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, Wednesday will bring the warmest conditions of the week, with highs ranging from the lower 50s to mid-60s. South Bend is forecast near 66 degrees and Fort Wayne near 67 degrees, approaching record highs set in 2017.

A 50 to 90 percent chance of rain will move through tonight into early Wednesday, with isolated thunderstorms possible. The highest rainfall chances overnight are expected north of US-30 and along the Indiana Toll Road corridor near Interstate 80 and Interstate 90.

Rain chances decrease briefly Wednesday before another round develops Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. A few storms may accompany the second system, particularly along and east of Interstate 69, including Fort Wayne and Auburn.

High temperatures Thursday will again reach the 50s to mid-60s before a cold front shifts conditions closer to seasonal norms late week.

Motorists along I-69, I-94, US-20 and US-30 should prepare for wet roadways during peak commute periods, especially late Tuesday night and Thursday evening.

The midweek warmth may impact outdoor work schedules and school activities before cooler air returns heading into the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as timing of showers and isolated storms may shift.
