South Bend, Indiana – Highs surging into the 60s today and Thursday will bring a springlike feel across northern Indiana, but rain and scattered thunderstorms could slow travel along US-31 and Interstate 80 before colder air returns Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, mild and breezy conditions will continue through Thursday. High temperatures will range from 62 to 68 degrees Wednesday, then 52 to 64 degrees Thursday as a system moves through. Rain chances increase to 30 to 60 percent tonight and again Thursday, with scattered thunderstorms possible during the afternoon and evening hours.
Communities including South Bend, Elkhart, Fort Wayne and Warsaw may see periods of rain that create wet pavement and reduced visibility, especially during the Thursday evening commute. Drivers along I-69 near Fort Wayne and I-94 near Michigan City should watch for brief downpours and gusty winds.
A noticeable cooldown begins Friday, with highs dropping into the 40s and low 50s. Rain may mix with or change to snow showers by Friday night, particularly north of US-30. Light snow chances continue into Saturday and Sunday, with lows dipping into the 20s.
Residents should prepare for changing conditions late in the week, from mild rain to colder temperatures and possible light snow. Additional updates will be issued if thunderstorm strength or snowfall potential increases.
