South Bend, IN – Police responded to an armed suspect near Indiana University South Bend on Monday night, prompting a campus shelter-in-place order that has since been lifted.

According to the South Bend Police Department, officers were called just after 8 p.m. September 22 to the 1000 block of South 23rd Street for a reported domestic disturbance. Police said the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm before fleeing in a vehicle.

Shortly afterward, the vehicle reportedly crashed near Northside Boulevard and Clover Street. Witnesses told police the suspect exited the car, fired additional shots, and then ran from the scene. Officers launched a large search, using drones and a K9 unit, in coordination with Indiana University Police.
