South Bend, IN – A report of gunfire in the Eddy Street Commons area led South Bend police to investigate shortly after midnight on Sunday, September 21. Officers discovered a window at Embassy Suites damaged by what appeared to be gunfire, though no injuries were reported.
According to the South Bend Police Department (SBPD), the incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. in the 1100 block of E. Angela Boulevard. The SBPD Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the case.
Police said this comes after an increased law enforcement presence in Eddy Street Commons over the weekend, particularly tied to disturbances surrounding Saturday’s football game. That night, 13 people were arrested for offenses ranging from criminal trespass to unlawful possession of a firearm.
Authorities reported recovering three handguns, including one listed as stolen, as well as a rifle. The 13 arrested individuals, spanning eight separate cases, are awaiting formal charging decisions from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. One individual also had an outstanding warrant, police said.
Investigations remain active, and police are encouraging anyone with information to contact Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP or submit tips online at p3tips.com/203.
