South Bend, IN – Police are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon on South Bend’s south side, leaving one person dead and two others hospitalized.

According to the South Bend Police Department, officers responded around 1:40 p.m. Friday, January 2, to the area of Ironwood Drive and Jackson Road, following reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Investigators from the St. Joseph County FACT team were called to the scene to assist.

Despite life-saving efforts, one driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while another driver declined medical care. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased victim pending notification of family.

The crash impact caused one of the vehicles to veer off the road and strike a nearby residence, resulting in moderate structural damage. Police confirmed that no one inside the home was injured.
