South Bend, IN – A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an alleged armed robbery that began with a Facebook Marketplace deal in South Bend.

According to the South Bend Police Department, a woman reported on Thursday, September 25, around 8:40 p.m. that she had been robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Charles Black Community Center on West Washington Street.

Police said the victim had arranged to sell her PlayStation 5 to a man she met on Facebook. After a last-minute change in the meeting location, the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at her chest and demanded the items. The victim handed over property before the suspect drove away.

Investigators said the victim was able to provide Facebook messages and a profile photo, though the account was later deleted or blocked. Using the suspect’s vehicle license plate and video surveillance in the area, officers tracked the car to a nearby residence.

At the home, police identified the suspect as Dontrell Pierce, 22. A search warrant reportedly uncovered two handguns along with stolen video game accessories. Pierce was taken into custody and booked at the St. Joseph County Jail.

On Friday, September 26, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Pierce with armed robbery, pointing a firearm, and unlawful carrying of a handgun.

Authorities reminded residents to conduct online marketplace transactions in well-lit, public areas. The South Bend Police Department offers a safe exchange location at 701 W. Sample Street, which is under 24/7 video surveillance.
