South Bend, IN – Snow-covered roads and bitter cold are the main concerns across northern Indiana this afternoon as another round of winter weather moves through the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Northern Indiana reports that light to moderate snow will continue through mid-afternoon, creating slick travel conditions and reduced visibility.

Most areas are expected to see 1 to 3 inches of accumulation, especially west of I-69 and along or north of U.S. 30. Locally higher totals up to 4 inches are possible near Lake Michigan, where lake-enhanced snow bands may briefly intensify.

“Drive carefully as roads will be slick and possibly snow covered, especially in areas that see more accumulation,” the NWS cautioned. “Visibility will fall to less than one mile at times.”

Snow will taper off by early evening, though a few light lake-effect flurries could linger near the lakeshore. Tonight will turn frigid, with temperatures dropping to between 2°F and 10°F and wind chills from 0° to -10°F.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and dress warmly if heading outdoors this evening.
