TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Afternoon storms packing heavy rain, lightning, and wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected to roll across the Florida Panhandle, south Georgia, and southeast Alabama through Saturday evening, raising the risk of localized flooding and hazardous travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the greatest storm chances will occur during the afternoon and early evening hours, with the highest probabilities Friday and Saturday. Locally heavy downpours could quickly overwhelm drainage systems in urban areas such as Valdosta, Albany, and Panama City, creating flash flooding concerns.
Frequent lightning and strong wind gusts may also cause power outages and dangerous road conditions. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to move indoors when thunder is heard.
Cities including Tallahassee, Dothan, and Bainbridge are forecast to see rain chances topping 70 to 80 percent Friday, with widespread showers lingering into Saturday before tapering by late weekend.
The National Weather Service advises staying weather-aware as additional advisories could be issued if storm intensity increases.
