Minneapolis, MN – A winter storm is set to impact parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin beginning Tuesday evening, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and potentially hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon for several counties in both states. Areas including Dakota, Blue Earth, Goodhue, Rice, and Washington counties in Minnesota, along with Barron, Dunn, Eau Claire, and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin, could see snowfall totals between 4 to 8 inches, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph in Minnesota and 40 mph in Wisconsin.
The storm is expected to begin with rain Tuesday evening before transitioning to snow late at night. The heaviest snowfall is forecasted for Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, creating potentially whiteout conditions and dangerous travel during the Wednesday morning commute. Visibility may drop below 1/4 mile, and the combination of strong winds and heavy snow could lead to sporadic power outages due to downed tree limbs and power lines.
Residents are advised to prepare for possible blizzard conditions and exercise caution on the roads. The National Weather Service urges travelers to stay updated on weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel if conditions deteriorate.
Further updates will be provided as forecasts develop.
