Seattle, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Cascade Mountains, with snowfall expected to create hazardous travel conditions from Sunday evening through early Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle, the advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday for areas at or above 3,500 feet. Forecasts predict between 4 and 8 inches of snowfall across the West Slopes of the North Cascades and North Central Cascades, including Snoqualmie Pass, Stevens Pass, and the Mount Baker Ski Area.
The NWS warns that road conditions will become slippery, potentially impacting travel along mountain passes. Drivers should exercise caution and prepare for reduced visibility and difficult driving conditions, particularly in higher elevations.
Residents and travelers are advised to check road conditions before departing and carry emergency supplies such as blankets, food, and water. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) recommends using chains when necessary and allowing extra travel time.
The snowfall is expected to taper off by early Monday morning, but lingering icy conditions may persist. Travelers should stay informed by checking NWS and WSDOT updates for the latest weather and road conditions.
