South Bend, IN – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for parts of Northern Indiana as powerful lake effect snow bands continue to strengthen tonight, bringing dangerous travel conditions and significant snowfall through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the heaviest snow is expected Sunday night into early Monday, with snowfall rates of 1–3 inches per hour possible within the most intense bands. A brief lull is anticipated overnight as the primary snow band shifts westward, followed by renewed lake effect activity Monday afternoon and evening.

Counties under Winter Storm Warnings (pink) and Winter Weather Advisories (purple) include LaPorte, Porter, St. Joseph, and Marshall, where total snow accumulations of 5 to 12 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts near the lake.

Temperatures will hover in the 20s and low 30s, keeping roads slick and snow-packed. The NWS urges drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, as visibility may drop to near zero during heavier snow bursts.

Cold conditions will persist into midweek, with another shot of arctic air expected to arrive late in the week.
